GALLERY 1 - FAMOUS PERSONS

U.S. Presidents

Portraits of U.S. Presidents were a common and popular subject matter for American cigar bands in the early 1900s, both as individual portraits and as sets or series of all the presidents that had been in office until that time. Many different presidential series were produced, some as part of hobby kits to be used in decoupage, some as promotional items, and some as stock bands for use on cigars. Most of the presidential series were produced between 1900-1910, therefore most include the first 25 presidents from George Washington to Theodore Roosevelt. Below are a few examples of the many different presidential series.

In addition to presidential cigar band series, there were also many cigar bands made depicting individual presidents. Probably the most frequently depicted was the first U.S. President, George Washington. Click here for a selection of portraits of Washington. Shown below are portraits of several other presidents.
