This gallery displays a small selection of the thousands of early cigar bands from the early 1900s with simple designs. Then, as now, for each more expensive cigar there were many lower-priced cigars sold. Cigar manufacturers earned less on those, and therefore used lower-cost cigar bands printed on less expensive paper using only one or two colors, minimal ornamentation, and no embossing or gilding. Ironically, the simpler design and lesser quality of these bands seems to have made them even more disposable and less collected, so they are often less commonly seen than more sophisticated bands.
