About The Moviegoers

One part shake, one part sweet, one part swing, and one part kickass. Sorta like Cheap Trick playing Beatles covers in Joan Jett's garage while John Sebastian and Nigel Tuffnel make the Martinis. The Moviegoers have been perfecting this ferocious but frivolous sound for 5 years.

Formed in the early '90s (doesn't that still sound weird to you?) by two guys with something to prove. Songwriters Liam Davis and Worth Wagers, wanted to create a simple and shimmering noise with a driving but eccentric beat.

Along the way, The Moviegoers have been featured on Network Television (reenacting the real-life near-electrocution of guitarist Worth Wagers and playing two of their songs on RESCUE 911 (CBS); been the subject of an article in a national literary magazine (the upcoming Summer; 1998 Music Issue of the Oxford American- published by John Grisham); garnered front page Entertainment feature stories in both the Chicago Sun-Times (July 7, 1996) and the Columbus Dispatch (August 9, 1997) and been favorable reviewed by most every publication in Chicago.

The Moviegoers recorded output includes two full-length CDs, and 8-song EP, and a 7" vinyl single. They have played all over the states and in Europe, and their songwriting has been praised by Ray Davies and Jonathan Richman. They were recently a most requested band on the best college station in the country (according to the National Association of College Broadcasters), 89.7 WGLS Rowan University in NJ, -- they're also getting substantial airplay on WCBE 90.5 in Columbus, OH and in Lexington, KY on WXZZ Z-103 and WRFL 88.1.

Currently the Moviegoers are in pre-production for their third full-length on Hear Diagonally Records - to be recorded at Velvet Shirt studios (Liz Phair, The Kinsey Report, Pavement).
